Prof. Chang-Hee Lee received his B.S. degree in electronics engineering from Hanyang University, Seoul, Korea, in 1983 and his M.S. and Ph.D. in electrical engineering from KAIST in 1985 and 1989, respectively. He was a post-doctoral fellow at Bellcore in Red Bank, US, from 1989 to 1990, and worked as a senior researcher at ETRI, Daejeon, Korea, from 1990 to 1997. He had been a professor at KAIST since 1997. He served as the Dean of Research Affairs of KAIST from 2010 to 2011. He also served as the Head of the School of Electrical Engineering at KAIST, from 2013 to 2016. He served as co-dean of the LIC (Liangjiang International College) established by cooperation between KAIST and CQUT (Chongqing University of Technology), in China from 2017 to 2020. For industry experience, he was CTO of Novera Optics Korea Inc. from 2001 to 2008. He received the HaeRim Photonics Technology Award in 2013. He had spent over 30 years in the area of optical communications, including semiconductor lasers. He is the author of more than 250 international journals and conference papers. He is also the inventor of 35 patents issued in the US. His research interests are optical communication, LiDAR, semiconductor lasers, and optical access networks. He has been a fellow of IEEE since 2010.
